Which setup is right for your style and budget? I'll talk you through the differences between controllers and decks as well as the best choices for different price ranges. For certain types of DJs, turntables and serato may be the best choice. For others, a Pioneer controller or CDJs work better.

I get this question every day and today I'm here to share some info that could help you make a decision. There is no 'better' controller in this clash of the titans, but only one will fit your personal needs best. Make sure that you watch my full reviews for both devices to see them in action.
These are the two biggest 4 channel controllers for Serato DJ and they offer a lot of the same functionality, but they do have their unique features as well:
- The NS7II has moving platters. If you really like the feeling of moving platters, or if your goal is to do a lot of turntablism (scratching & juggling), the NS7II is your best option. Yes, you can learn to scratch on a controller with normal jogwheels, but it's easier to practice those skills with moving platters.
- The DDJ-SZ has the different colors for the pads and allows you to color code your cue points. It also has two usb ports to use it with two DJ's at the same time, or to make a seamless transition from one to the next. Both of these features are cool, but probably not enough to be the deciding factor.
- The DDJ-SZ has DVS capability. This means that you can plug in two turntables or cd players with timecode and use them to control two decks in Serato DJ. This turns it into a 4 platter controller for Serato DJ. A great feature, but only interesting if you have a lot of space for your DJ setup and if you plan to do a lot of DJ'ing with 4 decks. If that is something you wish to do (with 4 platters), the DDJ-SZ is your best option.
- The DDJ-SZ is the closest thing to using the standard club equipment (Pioneer CDJ 2000's with a DJM900) so if you plan to use that in clubs, the SZ could be your best option.
It has to be said that there are still plenty of DJ's out there (like myself) who use turntables (with DVS) in the clubs as well. If you plan to use turntables in the club, the NS7II could be your best option (or just buy turntables).
- Budget. This is always an important factor and in this case there is a huge price difference between the two controllers:
The DDJ-SZ will set you back close to $2000,- in the US and €2000,- in The Netherlands.
The NS7II costs $1400,- in the US and only €1100,- in The Netherlands!
So at the end of the day you have look at what it is you need from a controller and base your decision on that. Either way, you're getting a great controller.

We've rounded up ’s 5 best-selling pro level DJ Controllers - the Numark NV, Native Instruments Kontrol S4, Pioneer DDJ-SX2, Numark NS7II, and Pioneer DDJ-SZ. All 5 controllers are designed to handle a wide scope of environments and venues - anything from bedroom DJing to large format clubs, or even festivals. All 5 feature 4 channel mixers and an EQ, and are packaged with current, pro level DJ software. Despite having all of that in common, certain unique and cool features stand out on each.
The Numark NV is one of the newest controllers in this roundup. The NV is packaged with Serato DJ and is equipped with a built-in 24-bit, USB 2.0 audio interface. It features Intelligent, touch-activated EQ, filter, and effects knobs. Essential for any scratch DJ’s toolkit; a pro-grade crossfader comes standard on the NV. An integrated 1:1 real-time, full color Serato display gives any Nuamrk NV user the freedom to focus on the music, and not the computer.
Designed for advanced performance; the Native Instruments Kontrol S4 has put all of the latest TRAKTOR features at your fingertips. Unique to the S4 is the dedicated Remix Deck controls with visual feedback. The S4 includes 2 stereo inputs, which allows turntable connectivity and also enables 4 separate units the ability to utilize its 30 plus built-in effects. The Traktor S4 is also iOS ready. Plug-and-play on your iPhone and iPad!
The Pioneer DDJ-SX2 is the successor to the best-selling DJ controller of all time; the discontinued DDJ-SX. The SX2 features a 4 channel mixer; which enables simultaneous 4 track performance, and a new needle search pad; which enables immediate movement to the desired playback point. The SX2 supports the Serato DJ DVS function; allowing external turntable or media player connectivity to the software. The SX2 also supports Serato Flip; which records and calls up to a maximum of 6 orders and sequences of HOT CUE operations, and is one of the latest Serato functions.
The Numark NS7II is the only controller in this roundup with 7-inch motorized turntables and features ultra-high-resolution MIDI. With genuine vinyl discs, real felt slipmats for unmatched tactile control, and curve adjustable CP- Pro crossfaders, the NS7II mimics the traditional feel of real turntables. The 4 channel mixer can operate standalone, which means you can mix up to four external sources without even turning your computer on, or connect and mix CD players, turntables, MP3 players, or any other external source. Its rugged metal construction makes the Numark NS7II ideal for frequent travel.
The DDJ-SZ is at the top of Pioneer’s Serato DJ controller arsenal. The DDJ-SZ shares many features with the DDJ-SX2, but features a 206mm diameter “big jog” - the same as the pro DJ/Club-oriented multi media player, the CDJ-2000NXS. DJs enjoy even more creative freedom on the DDJ-SZ thanks to a high/low pass filter on every channel, including the two mic channels. The DDJ-SZ features high quality FX, like Oscillator, noise, siren, cymbal and horn as well as popular sound color FX, like pitch, echo, jet and filter. DDJ-SZ also features 2 sound cards and 2 USB ports, which allows the connectivity of 2 computers. Dedicated A/B buttons allow DJs the ability to split the controller - assigning each half for seamless DJ handovers.

The classic Hummingbird style acoustic became one of the first acoustic guitars to become a recognized rock and roll icon thanks to Keith Richards, who used a Hummingbird on many Rolling Stones albums in the early '70s including Exile on Main Street and Sticky Fingers. Today, the Hummingbird is still a go-to acoustic for rockers like Sheryl Crow and Kid Rock who need an acoustic with fast action and great tone. Now, both beginners and professionals can enjoy a classic look designed and built with the integrity you expect from Epiphone.

The Les Paul Custom made its debut in 1954 after the initial success of the Les Paul Goldtop. Mr. Les Paul himself wanted to convey to audiences that the solid body electric guitar was not a fad but a superb and challenging instrument and that his signature axe, the Les Paul, was the king of all electric solid body guitars. So, Les requested a Les Paul with a custom color finish in solid black and solid white with gold hardware that would blend well with a tuxedo.
The result was the Les Paul Custom, or the "tuxedo" Les Paul, as it became known among fans. The Les Paul Custom quickly became one of the most recognized guitars in the world and Les himself used his Les Paul Custom in concert, on his weekly television show with wife Mary Ford and on his album covers, including his famous duet with pal Chet Atkins, Chester and Lester.
Now with Epiphone's superior ProBucker™ humbucker pickups with coil-tapping along with the Custom's classic gold hardware, fully bound body, neck and headstock, and pearloid inlays, we think you'll agree that the Epiphone Les Paul Custom PRO is "dressed to kill."
Like all Epiphone instruments, the Epiphone Les Paul Custom PRO comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty and Gibson's one-of-a-kind 24/7/365 Customer Service. Go all out with a Les Paul Custom PRO. See your authorized Epiphone dealer today!
